Frequently Asked Questions
Is therapy right for me?
Seeking out therapy is an individual choice and there are many reasons why people choose to start and participate in a therapeutic journey. Some individuals are dealing with chronic psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, or attention deficit disorders, while others are navigating pivotal transitions in their lives such as divorce, loss, or career changes. Therapy is right for anyone that is interested in growth, positive change, taking responsibility and creating more self awareness to get more out of life.
How will therapy help me?
Therapy can provide several benefits for individuals and can provide space and support, coping skills and strategies, and problem solving skills for a variety of issues such as depression, grief processing, anxiety, self esteem or body issues, relationship challenges, or getting more control when life feels chaotic. Therapists can provide a non-judgemental and fresh perspective on difficult problems or situations, and work with you to navigate implementing healthy changes into your routine. Therapy can also help with communication and listening skills, which are the foundations of healthy relationships both in your personal and professional life.
Is therapy confidential?
The law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a psychotherapist and client, and no information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client in most situations. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality including: suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse (the therapist is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately); if a client is threatening bodily harm to others; or if a client intends to harm themselves. Therapists make every effort to work with individuals to ensure their safety, but if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.
Do you accept insurance? How does insurance work?
I currently participate with the following insurance networks:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Blue Care Network
- Aetna
- Priority Health
To determine if you have mental health coverage, you should first check with your insurance carrier. These are questions you can ask your insurance representative:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
- How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
- How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
What if I don’t have insurance?
I also offer private pay options if you don’t have health insurance or a policy that covers mental health therapy, or if you choose not to use your insurance. Please contact me for details.

About
I have spent over 20 years in the wellness space, learning how to use a holistic approach to healing and therapy. I focus on the relationship between mind, body, and spirit, to help you become better attuned to your entire self. When facing issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, or distress, we find that not only your mental health is affected, but your physical health as well. The body can hold onto emotions and trauma, so we can work together to release and let go of that which we no longer need and be open to move into the new. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment theory, and mindfulness practices to better understand how your thought process influences your behaviors and actions, and learn healthy coping mechanisms and resources to create new positive thought patterns and internal self talk.
I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Western Michigan University. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan and a nationally certified counselor recognized by the National Board of Certified Counselors. I completed my 600 hour graduate internship at Gilda’s Club in Metro Detroit where I participated and led several support groups to those individuals living with cancer, caretaking for a loved one that has cancer, and those that have lost someone to cancer. I have also been a licensed esthetician in the state of Michigan for 20 years, and still enjoy working in the beauty and wellness space in my free time. I take a holistic approach to therapy, combining aspects of cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness based theories.
